CONCLUSION This work has emphasised that supernova and pulsars occur deep into galactic bulges. Surface density data is seen to be consistent for both supernova in external galaxies, and pulsars and massive stars in our own. Similarity of thse distributions does not imply a unique relationship however, and pulsars appear to be associated with only a fraction of the observed supernova. Surface density data is used to revise the historical supernova rate, leading to an event rate more frequent than 1 per 10 years, a rate which is not inconsistent with that for external galaxies.
